News:

January 26, 2006:

Alot has happened since I last put an update on here. I have updated the server to Netware 6.5 SP5 (OES SP2) and also updated the mail system to Groupwise 7. The hard drive crash in blueboy led me to several changes in it's backup system and all seems fine now. I finally fixed some of the backend processes so that the blog has timed entries and can also have some entered directly from my phone as well.

October 07, 2005:

Blueboy has crashed hard. Hard drive just ate itself. Working on getting it back up now alot of hte content has been lost. My backup was missing a good bit of stuff it seems but some of it was saved. I am really bummed about this right now and I am going to bed. I will try to get this rest of it fixed tomorrow.

August 03, 2005:

Added a new site to wilpig.org a few months back but haven't made it really public until now. So the is the official notice that http://blog.wilpig.org is alive and kicking.

July 07, 2005:

Haven't posted any of the changes lately. Had a few problems with a few of the servers last month when the air conditioner died again. Finally got around to getting the antivirus on the server fixed and have started a blog on the other server. I will post a link to it when I get more comfortable with it.

May 24, 2005:

This just seemed appropriate. It's not exactly server news but it seems relevant to me right now.

May 13, 2005:

Ongoing CSS conversion. Figured out the mystery of the header tags. Still trying more stuff. In other news, I have some patches that need to be applied to the server. After I get some stuff done on the house this weekend I will see about loading those.

May 09, 2005:

Recoded the site tonight to almost pure CSS. It's spiffy now. Time for sleep.

May 05, 2005:

What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo then work on a little code to make the main page hit the middle of the screen no matter what size screen you have.

April 28, 2005:

The problem isn't gone, but I am really sure it is one of the drives dieing. Just gonna wait it out and see which to replace. It's a mirrored set so I'm not worried about losing one. In other news this is funny.

April 04, 2005:

Well the patch didn't help much, was hoping for a driver problem but it still looks like hardware. Possibly drive controller, possibly memory. I plan to investigate more when I get home from work later tonight. Everything is running just really slowly. When the system goes to do a directory lookup it is pausing for up to 20 seconds so please be patient for it to respond.

April 03, 2005:

For those of you that have noticed, the server is experiencing some weird problems. I think I have it nailed down to java but it might be a hard drive controller flaking out on me. Please hang in there while I narrow the problem down further. I plan to roll out a patch later tonight which I expect to clear up the troubles.

October 14, 2004:

Okay this has been a long time coming and I just keep putting it off. All of the server troubles were due to a failing video card. Finally replaced it about a week after the last history entry and it has been stable ever since. I have also replaced blueboy completely and it is also running much better now. As soon as I can get Tony over here to run the circuit for the UPS everything for the servers will be completely done.

August 31, 2004:

The server was having some problems so I loaded a patch. And it seems to be better now but it loaded some extra garbage onto the webpage. Found out today and fixed it.

August 01, 2004:

Well the pig is officially moved! I have everything here in the new house running now. Still have a bit of work to do but at least everything is back up and kicking again. The live video feed is now watching my driveway until I pick a better spot or get some more cameras. Found my access point and did finally turn the WEP on. Being this close to a frat house surely one of them knows how to scan for open access points. Not much else to report back into the abyss.

July 24, 2004:

I have closed on my house and will start moving everything over today and tomorrow. The servers will be moved on Tuesday or Wednesday but I am not anticipating any real down time. Of my three name servers one should still be up at the office during the move and I have already put in the new addresses for the servers for the move.

July 14, 2004:

well I have told several people about this, but let this be the official announcement. wilpig.org and it's associated sites will be going down for a few days in the next few weeks. I am set to close on a house on Friday July 16, 2004. As long as everything goes smooth I will have inet service there before I move and I will prep the domains for moving well in advance but I will have to modify the name servers at the root which could cause a little downtime.

June 11, 2004:

Well I haven't posted an update in a while. I am working on a set of other services to add to the server. Been fighting a memory leak that PHP / Apache seem to have introduced onto my main server. It seems that cutting the garbage collection interval has helped but not a complete fix. I might need to add another gig of ram. Oh well, carry on.

April 29, 2004:

Made it to where the history section here can scroll as well as the pop up if you click on news. I played with making it do this once before and either gave up when it didn't work right, or just didn't like the way it looked. Since I can't remember which, it scrolls again.

March 28, 2004:

Finally got around to updating the picture of the servers I use for wilpig.org.

February 22, 2004:

I added a new link to the random page today to commemorate me seeing Eurotrip this weekend. Really funny movie.

February 15, 2004:

One dumb move spawns another, upgraded the server today to version 6.5. So apache has been upgraded as well to version 2.0.48 and a few other small changes in the background. The user directories are still causing me a little trouble but I expect to have that cleared up soon. The webservices seem to be a bit sluggish as well, and I am looking into that also.

January 04, 2004:

Okay CGI, Perl is back up and running, just needed to be kicked. Also added PHP to the apache to make some of the scripting type stuff a littler easier. The counter is fixed on the main page and the quote generator is working again on the random page. As I get some time I will fill out the quotes file with more than the 20 or so I have in there now.

January 03, 2004:

It has been a very busy past couple of days. Almost everything is back up now, got SSL and some of the email back last night. The webmail is also back online as well. All the CGI scripts were lost, I am working on getting a new set to fix the couters and random quote generator. Since everything else has been changed I am considering a site design change as well. If nothing else I will try to get an updated picture of the servers cause that one is extremely wrong now.

January 01, 2004:

Wow, what a new years eve. Short story goes, power flashed at 3am on the 31st and blew the power supply in pig_serv. Well when the power supply when it took the motherboard with it. We're still not done, it also took out BOTH hard drives in the server. All the user pages were saved but the email system was thrashed, sorry. Been working like mad to get it back up but had a slight new years, heavy drinking, interuption. Most everything is back up now, new server, more memory, new OS. Life is starting to get better. And to top things off two bastards stole my lottery winnings, one in South Carolina and another in Pennsylvania.

December 04, 2003:

Added a bit to the Random Acts of Stupidity

August 06, 2003:

Ran yet another round of upgrades last night. Put the latest patch on the mail server and related components. There was also some internet downtime last night. The main router I connect to the net through was having some trouble. Everything seems stable again.

July 27, 2003:

blueboy has been given an overhaul this weekend. Apache, PHP, and MySQL have all been upgraded to the latest versions. Everything appears to be stable so I may start testing the new version of gallery soon.

July 22, 2003:

Not sure what happened but the process that updates the server usage statistics stopped earlier this month. I have it running again now, hopefully it will keep updating.

July 13, 2003:

This update is a little late. I added a second hard drive to the server a week ago and setup mirroring between them. Also I have started working on a backup solution for the gallery server. I have it mostly done just need to do a bit more testing on it.

April 25, 2003:

Made a few changes lately. Mainly service pack 3 for groupwise is now running, tried to update the server to service pack 6 but had the same perl / cgi problem that I had with the beta. Also I have added a stats page for this server. In the coming weeks and months the stats should create a more complete picture.

February 23, 2003:

Well the patch hosed everything up. I have restored back one patch level and will just hope for the best. I reported all of the bugs I hit with the new patch and am awaiting a response about the problems.

February 20, 2003:

Loaded a new patch onto the main server today and it has wiped out all of the page hits information. Oh well this should have fixed the webserver image loading problems that were cropping up.

January 26, 2003:

Blueboy died last night. From what I can seen so far the fan on its processor stopped some time ago and caused it to overheat. I will be searching for a replacement processor / computer today.

December 04, 2002:

Well we had a lovely little power outage this evening. Stayed out for around 45 minutes, all is back up now.

November 18, 2002:

Well we had a lovely little power outage this morning. Stayed out for around 20 minutes, all is back up now.

September 28, 2002:

I have gotten tired of updating the history file and the index file at the same time when I had something to say. So tonight I have automated the process through the use of div tags. I updated the random acts of stupidity today also.

September 4, 2002:

Power outage last night. I haven't heard what happened yet but I will find out later today. My house sounds weird without all the computers purring.

September 1, 2002:

Finally got around to cleaning up my code and verifying it through W3C. Check my validity here.

August 18, 2002:

Loaded patches to the servers today. Netware 5.1 SP5 and Groupwise 6 SP2. Everything seems okay.

July 27, 2002:

Added a link to check the server uptime under the users section.

June 23, 2002:

Added a third name server earlier last week. Just now got around to updating this file.

June 06, 2002:

Added a favorite icon today. You can see a preview here.

May 18, 2002:

The storm last night took out the power again. This time it went out and stayed out for around 4 hours. We heard the first BANG from the tree hitting the lines around 7:00 and heard them show up to fix it around 11:30. I woke up this morning to see their truck still outside. Possibly stuck there. And here are the tracks they made through the yard next door.

May 02, 2002:

Fixed the rest of the odd problems that were spawned from the power spike and hardware fry after the 24th. Changed NICs and added a redundant link between servers to keep things running a little smoother.

April 24, 2002:

Power was out today for a few hours due to a fire next door. Here is a little of what is left from the fire. At the same time lightning killed the switch that connects everything here in the house AND it got the cable modem. Replaced the switch, got a new modem installed everything is back up now. If you happen to have a 125V 1.25A fuse, I could use one to fix my VCR. Stupid lightning.

March 07, 2002:

Loaded SP4 tonight. Both servers upgraded fine no complications.

February 23, 2002:

Updated to eDirectory 8.61 in preparation for server upgrade

February 4, 2002:

Server has been stable again now for a week. So I have turned the webmail access back on. Seems to be working okay now. Guess it was just bad memory.

January 20, 2002:

POP3 is fixed. But the latest webaccess is broken. I will turn it back on after the next patch.

January 07, 2002:

Upgraded mail server to version 6.0. POP3 is broken, please use web gateway for now.
