Systems Architect
Originally
hired to do general computer repair and transitioned into network
administration and engineering.
Successfully designed and installed networks for 17 school systems in
the Southeast Missouri and West Tennessee areas. Each started with single server LAN
setups that are now multi-school WAN installations either through VPN or some
form of direct connection (i.e. long range fiber or wireless).
- Combined six businesses with independent networks
into a single system with a common point of administration.
- Implemented an IP based phone system across all
locations with QoS.
- Installed squid with dansguardian and squidguard
to act as a transparent proxy to report internet usage as well as filter
content. MRTG was included to visually report the bandwidth usage.
- Converted existing servers to virtual machines
using XEN to lower costs and simplify server environments in schools.
- Designed and implemented a repeatable firewall
solution with usage monitoring and intrusion detection that can be
deployed with no interruption of service.
- Implemented a pass-through email filter to cut
down on spam without paying for an external service. (Feb 2009 88%
reduction)
- Migrated 500 users from a non-heirarchical
implementation to a tiered structure using common LDAP administration
tools.
- Advised schools on best practices to be CIPA
compliant while maintaining open internet for faculty and staff.
- Configured web based library system that combines
circulation, cataloging, searching, reporting and management.
- Installed a PC with a VGA balun to act as an
electronic bulletin board. Powerpoint, video and web pages were all
easily displayed on demand.
